San Marzano Tomatoes

These fragrant tomatoes grow in the Campania region of Italy at the foot of Vesuv volcano. They are known not only for their characteristic shape but especially for the wonderfully aromatic flavour which unlike so many other tomatoes, is enhanced by conserving them in cans. When it comes to making tomato based sauce for meat, pasta, or pizza, most chefs will accept no substitue for the original San Marzano tomato.
